Holy Broken was recorded in the winter of 2009 in Marshall, NC , in our moutaintop log cabin at the end of a dirt road.
The week we started recording, Danni saw a peacock amble out of the woods into our yard. He hung around for a week or so, suddenly flashing color from behind tall grass or once, upon arriving home, jumping into the middle of our driveway as we drove up. Eventually we would see him while at home, coming from behind a bush or the woodpile. And then he was gone.
The week we finished recording, Tim was sludging through our garden in a foot of unexpected snow when he saw a large animal by the woods along the back of the house. It looked like a donkey but bigger. He had a long shaggy mane and his hind-quarters were much shorter than the other quarters, which were bulky and powerful. He stopped and looked around and when we saw each other he let out a screamy roar and moved slowly back into the woods.
