Trickboxes on the Ponyline was released in 2003 on Sad Robot Records in the US and Konkurrent Records in Europe. Recording of Trickboxes began in 2001 in Tim and Danni's apartment in Rostock, Germany. They were living there for an academic fellowship and didn't have much gear aside from a computer, a few mic's, and a guitar. Danni borrowed some parts of a drumset from the upstairs neighbor, bought a harmonium and borrowed an amp. They recorded in their living room using a series of broomsticks, curtain rods and duct tape strung together above the instruments with mic's attached to them. The basic tracks were done that way. That was followed by two weeks in Nuremberg, Germany adding more tracks at Lone Star Studio. When they returned to Chicago, they headed into the basement to finish the songs. It was the last record they made before moving to North Carolina.
